Although I’m all for Seabelebvre’s elegant path around the pitfalls of sports prognostication, I would be remiss if I failed to point out that the Redskins have not always come up small, unlike a certain other team hailing from a place named for our first president. In fact, in our lifetimes, the Redskins have won three Super Bowls, while Seabelebvre’s beloved Squawks are 0-1 in Championship tries. Just sayin’.

I think they look nike-er-iffic. Free agents gonna wanna go there so they can look like off-brand superheroes–just like how kids keep going to Oregon and love the Maryland two-face. It’s gonna be the decade of the squawks. You watch.

Well, I certainly hope so. But, as I noted, the Caps were in this exact spot on March 1 after a similarly dramatic OT win, then proceeded to drop 3 of the next 4 at home (where their bread is generally buttered). They play 9 of their remaining 15 games on the road, where their record has been abysmal (11-18-3). Not only that, but 6 of the next 7 are roadies and include the defending Stanley Cup champs in Boston, tough playoff-bound teams in Philly and Chicago, and Detroit, who just recently snapped a record-setting stretch of 23 consecutive home wins. Also not to be taken lightly on this trip are the Jets (ne Atlanta Thrashers), who are battling the Caps for a playoff spot, and the Islanders, who though generally weak, always give the Caps fits. Even if they play well, it’s a tough slog.
